Guwahati: With the help of Virat Kohli's century, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill's half-century, India won the first ODI against Sri Lanka by 67 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 373 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Challenged by a big total, Sri Lanka lost 3 important wickets while scoring 64 runs. However, captain Shanaka scored 108 runs (88 balls, 12 fours, 3 sixes) without being dismissed and avoided losing by a huge margin. In the end, Lanka conceded defeat by scoring 306 runs at the loss of 8 wickets.
In the beginning, Avishka Fernando scored 5 runs, Kusal Mendis scored 0 runs, Charit Aslanka scored 23 runs and got out. Openers Pathum Nissanka and Dhananjaya de Silva made some recovery with a 65-ball 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket. But Nissanka scored 72 runs (80 balls, 11 fours) and Dhananjay scored 47 runs (40 balls, 9 fours) and was dismissed.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on 143 runs off 118 balls for India's first wicket. Shubman Gill scored 70 runs (60 balls, 11 fours) while Rohit Sharma scored 83 runs (67 balls, 9 fours, 3 sixes) and was dismissed.

Former captain Virat Kohli equaled Sachin Tendulkar's record of CDC century in the first ODI of the year. Kohli has scored a total of 45 centuries in ODIs and he has scored 9 centuries against Lanka. Kohli, who came to the crease as the second batsman in 19.4 overs, was dismissed for 113 runs (87 balls, 12 fours, 1 six) in 48.2 overs.
Shreyas Iyer scored 28 runs, KL Rahul scored 39 runs. In the end, India scored 373 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs.
